Companies Receiving New PILOT Tax Freezes Must Pay Living Wage!

In the fall of 2006, the Memphis City Council responded to the Memphis Living
Wage Campaign's call to attach living wage requirements to the city's tax
freeze program. Beginning in January 2007, any company that applies for
a PILOT property tax freeze from the Industrial Development Board must show
that all new jobs created at the job site will pay at least $10 per hour and
  provide health insurance.

Before our Living Wage Campaign, dozens of warehouses and manufacturers were getting tax breaks worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, while paying their workers poverty wages.
Now the PILOT tax break program can focus on bringing quality, living wage jobs to Memphis.
