Council Passes Living Wage for All City Workers!

The Living Wage Campaign celebrated a victory on December 5, 2006, when the
Council addressed the widespread problem of temporary City workers being paid
poverty wages. Many of these workers have been employed by the City for many
months or even years. The Council voted to raise all temporary workers above age 18
to at least $10 per hour by July 1st, 2007.

Previously, in February of 2006 the City Council passed a resolution,
introduced by Chairwoman TaJuan Stout Mitchell, to pay full-time City workers a living wage
of $10 per hour, plus health benefits, beginning in July of 2006.
